David Wilson, '84 — Retired President, Toyota Racing Development, U.S.A.

In collaboration with the Virginia Tech College of Engineering, the Student Engineers’ Council (SEC) is proud to host David Wilson ‘84 as part of our celebration for Engineers' Week 2025. Having dedicated 35 years to Toyota Racing Development (TRD), U.S.A., mechanical engineering alumnus Wilson is a distinguished figure in the world of motorsports.

Wilson served as the president of TRD from January 2014 until his retirement this past December. Throughout his tenure, Wilson held various roles, including vice president of operations and engineering, track support engineer, and design engineer.

Under his leadership, TRD achieved numerous championships and race wins across different racing series, including NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA. Wilson played a pivotal role in Toyota's significant entries into both CART/INDYCAR and NASCAR. His contributions were recognized with the prestigious Bill France Award of Excellence in 2024.

Wilson's career is marked by his passion for motorsports and his commitment to excellence, making him a respected and influential leader in the industry.
