Funding Transparency
At the Student Engineers' Council (SEC) at Virginia Tech, we prioritize transparency in our funding sources and the allocation of funds. Our mission is to support student engineering organizations by providing essential financial resources to foster innovation, leadership, and community engagement. Below, we detail the various sources of our funds and how they are utilized to achieve our goals.
Funding Sources
Coporate Partners
Our partnership with corporate entities through the Engineering Expo Career Fair serves as a significant source of revenue. The fair provides a platform for companies to connect with talented engineering students at Virginia Tech, fostering opportunities for internships, co-op programs, and full-time employment. The proceeds generated from corporate participation in the Engineering Expo Career Fair are allocated towards our philanthropy efforts and our general operating expenses. This enables us to support student engineering organizations in their endeavors through Engineering Organization Fund (EOF), faculty research projects through Big Contribution (BC), and connect the VT Engineering student community with events such as Engineers' Week and Engineers' Ball.
Endowments with the Virginia Tech Foundation
The SEC benefits from endowments we've established with the Virginia Tech Foundation (VTF), which serve as a sustainable source of funding for our philanthropic initiatives. These endowments are the result of generous contributions from alumni, donors, corporate partners, and other supporters who share our commitment to advancing engineering education and fostering innovation. Through prudent management and investment by the VTF, the endowments generate returns that are utilized to support the mission of the SEC, providing vital resources to student engineering organizations and scholarships to outstanding engineering student leaders year after year.
Private Donors
Private donors play a crucial role in the success of the SEC. Their generosity enables us to offer essential financial aid to student engineering organizations and allow us to continue growing our Lynn Nystrom Fund endowment, empowering them to:
- Compete in national and international competitions
- Present at prestigious conferences
- Conduct outreach programs to inspire future engineers
- Purchase necessary materials, software, and supplies for their projects
Your Impact
The support from these funding sources allows us to make a significant impact on the engineering community at Virginia Tech. Thanks to the revenue generated from the Engineering Expo, endowments, and private donors, we are able to assist student organizations in achieving their goals and making meaningful contributions to their fields.
Join Us in Making a Difference
If you are inspired by the achievements of our students and wish to contribute to their continued success, we invite you to support the SEC through a donation. Your generosity can help us expand our reach and provide even more opportunities for our talented engineering students.
How to Donate
Supporting the EOF is simple and impactful. You can make a secure donation through the Virginia Tech giving portal at give.vt.edu. Every contribution, regardless of size, makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the future of engineering.
